Sunshine Coast Writers and Editors Society announces the winners of the 2026 Book Awards for BC Authors

The Sunshine Coast Writers and Editors Society announced the winners of their fourth annual Book Awards for BC Authors last month during the Society’s Art & Words Festival. The annual competition recognizes both traditionally published and self-published works by BC residents. 

Children's/Young Adult

One Ocean: 7 Ways to Save the Sea, written by Mark Leiren-Young, illustrated by Bithi Sutradhar (Orca Book Publishers)

Shy Cat and the Stuff-the-Bus Challenge, written by Dian Day, illustrated by Amanda White (Second Story Press)

Star Sailor: The Story of Words, written by Sara Cassidy, illustrated by Julie McLaughlin (Orca Book Publishers)

In addition to the children's/young adult category, Woolly Dog Warms His Family, written and illustrated by Andrea Fritz (Orca Book Publishers), was named a winner in the Indigenous category. Teen author Johanna Goldenberg took home the honour for youth writing with her debut novella, The Sharp Edge of Seashells.
