
The winners of the 2026 PEI Book Awards were announced on Sunday, May 24 at Charlottetown Library Learning Centre. The ceremony was hosted by Shawn Hogan, Executive Director of the PEI Writers' Guild. Author Sita MacMillan was awarded the Children's Literature prize for Sarah Ponakey, Storycatcher and Âhâsiw’s Forest Powwow. Illustrated by Azby Whitecalf, Sarah Ponakey, Storycatcher and Âhâsiw’s Forest Powwow is the first in a series of chapter books published by Annick Press.
Macmillan's fellow finalists were The Sandcastle That Jack Built by Judith Graves, with illustrations by Maurice Bernard (Acorn Press); and My Little Ogichidaa: An Indigenous Lullaby by Willie Poll, with illustrations by Hawlii Pichette (Medicine Wheel Publishing).
Presented biennially, the PEI Book Awards are sponsored by the Department of Education and Early Years. The poetry award is sponsored by The Bookmark in Charlottetown.
