The Quebec Writers’ Federation (QWF) has announced the shortlists for the 2026 QWF Literary Awards, including the Janet Savage Blachford Prize for Children’s and Young Adult Literature.
The winners of the eight prestigious prizes will be announced at the QWF Literary Awards Gala on Monday, November 9 at Cabaret Lion d’Or. The ceremony begins at 8:00 pm, preceded by a cocktail reception from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The event will be hosted by writer, podcaster, and professor Linda Morra. Each book award comes with a $3,000 cash prize.
The theme of this year’s gala is “Fancy Schmancy.” Attendees are invited to get in the spirit of the theme by dressing extravagantly, luxuriously, or with unapologetic flair. Come in a black tie or ballroom gloves. Wear a regal cape or your tallest top hat. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box: Formal attire is not required. Dressing to the theme is optional but welcome.
The finalists for the Janet Savage Blachford Prize for Children’s and Young Adult Literature are:
Little Moments in a Big Universe, written and illustrated by Todd Stewart (Owlkids Books)
The Mountain That Wouldn't Move, written and illustrated by Sandra Dumais (Owlkids Books)
Mr. Kuroki's Garden, written by Anne Renaud, illustrated by Ohara Hale (Crocodile Books)
Tom's Wild Ride, written and illustrated by Isabelle Arsenault (Tundra Books)
